CES Ecology was commissioned by Staffordshire County Council to design a scheme to translocate a population of great crested newts to a new site to make way for an extension to a successful business park. CES installed over 10km of amphibian fencing and 1,000 pitfall traps to clear amphibians from the site. The animals were relocated to a nearby country park, where CES had designed and created a purpose-built replacement habitat. Staffordshire County Council later won ‘National Gold’ in the Conservation category at the annual Green Apple Environment Awards for this project.
